duty

In 1805 Admiral Lord Nelson sailed his Intrepid British Fleet to engage the French and Spaniards at the Battle of Trafalgar. At the start of the fight, Nelson ran up a signal on his flagship "Victory" which said, "England expects every man to do his duty." And as he later that same day lay dying on the deck of "Victory", wounded by a sharpshooter from an enemy ship, he said, "Thank God, I have done my duty." Here was a man with a tremendous sense of responsibility and accountability to his nation. He expected all the men under his command to have that same feeling. For believers everywhere there is an even more encompassing call to duty found in Solomon's words, "Fear God and keep His commandments, for this is the whole duty of man." (Ecclesiastes 12:13)  We are in a great battle today for the hearts and minds of people. Are we doing our duty?
