.....rest

These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full John 15:11

The Rest That Comes from Abiding, Joy is a Byproduct, Not a Goal. Jesus doesn't tell the branches to try harder to feel joyful. He says His joy will *remain* — the same word used throughout this chapter for abiding. Joy, like fruit, isn't manufactured by effort; it's the natural overflow of staying connected to the right source.

This matters because so many of us chase joy directly, as if it were a destination we could reach by circumstance or achievement. Jesus locates it somewhere else entirely — inside a relationship of ongoing connection to Him. Paul describes a related peace that seems to defy explanation: "And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:7 this means it doesn't always make logical sense given the circumstances. It isn't the absence of hardship; it's a peace that holds steady in spite of it, because it's rooted in Christ rather than in favorable conditions.

 Jesus Himself connects rest with labor, not with idleness, "Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me... and ye shall find rest unto your souls." Matthew 11:29 A yoke is a working instrument, not a hammock. The rest Jesus offers is found *in* the labor of following Him, not apart from it — because the weight is shared, not carried alone.

"A life in Christ is a life of restfulness. There may be no ecstasy of feeling, but there should be an abiding, peaceful trust... The heart that rests most fully upon Christ will be most earnest and active in labor for Him." Steps to Christ, p. 70

A Question to Sit With, Have you been chasing joy as something to achieve, or resting in it as something that flows from simply staying close to Christ?

Dear Jesus, let Your joy remain in me — not because my circumstances are easy, but because I'm staying near to You. Give me the rest that comes from trusting You fully, even while I labor. In Jesus' name
