.....within

For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. Galatians 5:17

Paul doesn't pretend this tension away. Even as a mature apostle, he describes an ongoing pull between two opposing forces inside him. If Paul experienced this war, we shouldn't be surprised — or discouraged — to feel it too. Growth in Christ was never advertised as the absence of struggle.

Paul doesn't leave us stuck in the battle without a way forward: This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. Galatians 5:16 "Walk" is a continuous action — a step-by-step, day-by-day dependence, not a single decisive victory that ends the fight permanently. The command isn't "defeat the flesh through sheer resolve." It's "walk in the Spirit," trusting that as we do, the flesh's grip weakens.

Ellen White describes exactly why partial effort can never win this war: The whole heart must be yielded to God, or the change can never be wrought in us by which we are to be restored to His likeness... God desires to heal us, to set us free. But since this requires an entire transformation, a renewing of our whole nature, we must yield ourselves wholly to Him. Steps to Christ, p. 43

This reframes the battle entirely. We're not meant to fight the flesh directly, toe to toe, relying on our own strength. We're meant to yield — fully — and let the Spirit do what only He can do.

A Question to Sit With: Where are you currently fighting the flesh through willpower alone, instead of yielding that area fully to the Spirit?

Dear Jesus, I yield the parts of my heart I've been holding back. I can't win this battle in my own strength — I don't want to anymore. Walk with me today, step by step. In Your name,
